Tucked away on the shores of a small lake there's a sunny little cottage where colour takes deep breaths. This little refuge is the perfect place to inspire an artist & writer to create, and the ideal home for MIM*Art.

Canadian born artist-writer, Mim* Thompson, creates vibrant pieces & articles from her home in Northern Ontario after having lived abroad (Australia) for a decade.

Mim’s pride in her Canadian, First Nation, French, Irish, and Australian heritage filters down through her work, and she often refers to many of her visual pieces as “Chameleon Art” (where she hides images).

Inspired by the intricacies of nature, emotion, music, and the human spirit, Mim aims to create vibrant pieces and articles that embody their own chi, sometimes hiding images and meaning within. Mim attempts to capture SOULS with pieces that arouse playfulness in those who dare to look beyond the words or colourful lines on the canvas, and into the depths of their own imagination, to then take a deep breath.

Primarily self-taught, Mim* has evolved as an Artist-Writer through workshops and classes too numerous to keep track of, taken throughout the world from Mexico, Peru, Australia, and back to Haliburton, Ontario. She was fortunate to have been exposed to exceptionally cultural atmospheres during travels, especially during her time in Brisbane, getting the benefit and honour of learning from being surrounded by brilliant artists, writers, poets, comedians, & performers.

While juggling time for writing, painting, and due-diligence, Mim* tries to involve herself in as many community events as possible. She has donated many of her pieces to fundraising campaigns for a number of various causes. She’s also worked for the Sudbury Separate School Board teaching children’s leather craft classes, adult equivalency courses in Drawing basics, as well as supporting the local groups of artists in surrounding communities.

Mim* is now embarking on a new adventure - a journey of the soul & mind combined. One that involves researching the plight of endangered species throughout the world, and helping them emerge from the canvas in a new series dedicated to reaching out as well as educating (herself and others). Hence the birth of this blog: "The Species of Origin".  

Visual Art mediums: mixed media, favours acrylic & vivid colour.
Writing style: successfully embraces various styles, prefers humour and educational (even better : both).
